有田焼は2016年に創業400年を迎えた伝統産業です。歴史を紐解けば、産地である佐賀県有田では、その技術を継承しつつも留まることなく、さらなる発展を目指し、たとえ鎖国下であっても世界に向けて豊かなやきもの文化を発信してきました。しかし、ライフスタイルの変化や安価な工業製品が溢れる今、有田焼をとりまく環境は厳しさを増しています。
佐賀県では、有田焼創業400年事業「ARITA EPISODE 2」として取り組んできた欧州でのブランディングの成果をひとつのゴールとし、現在、有望な市場である米国に的を絞った佐賀県海外市場開拓支援事業(新市場開拓支援事業)を推進しています。海外へ打って出ようとするエネルギッシュな時代のスピリットを継ぐ事業者が参加し、2016年8月より常設展示・販売を通じて、有田焼に対する評価とニーズを探ります。

We are happy to introduce one-of-a-kind tableware from Arita.
Arita ware is a traditional crafts industry of porcelain, which celebrated its 400th year in 2016. Rooted in Arita of Saga Prefecture, it has kept its traditional techniques alive and evolving and has continued to show the world its rich pottery even during the times of national isolation during the Edo era. Today, after significant changes in people’s lifestyles, the industry is full of low cost products from Japan and elsewhere thus leaving Arita ware and its market in a difficult position.
Due to Arita ware’s critical position, the Saga Prefectural Government formed “ARITA EPISODE 2”, a project to commemorate Arita ware’s 400 year anniversary as a new starting point to spread it, and has set the European market as one of its goal. Today, they have set the U.S. market as another promising market and has started a new project to make its way into the U.S. Companies with passion and great will have come together to participate in this project, and we will be introducing products from these companies at THE COVER NIPPON NEW YORK to see how Arita ware is seen and needed in the U.S.
